Putin doesn't "play the role of the good guy," he is the good guy. When Rubio says we're in a multicolor world, he means all the strong countries are in competition. That's how little he understands the BRICS, who treat all partners as equals, and, by using their own currencies, will de-dollarize the "world order" and the US and Israel will be isolated. China and Russia are both beautifully run, both democratic socialist countries, but China "with Chinese characteristics." I heard Putin, for three hours, answer questions from people from all over the world..politicians, journalists, etc...without out missing a beat, brilliantly. He (and Xi Jinping) are the two best leaders in the world. All citizens have excellent healthcare and education for all. No homeless. Clean cities. In China 70% of people own their homes with no mortgages. Land and utilities are publically owned...electricity bill is $5 a month, water, $2 a month. All emphasis is on helping the people. In the US all emphasis is on making the rich, richer. Putin brought 70 million people out of poverty and into the middle class. China makes everything. The US makes nothing except weapons for war.
By the way, with dedollarization, the US will be unable to foist brutal sanctions on other countries. The US will be unable to steal billions from Venezuela and Russia and Iran, etc. as they've done in the past.
