According to well-placed sources, Mauricio Claver Carone is "picking who can operate" in Venezuela, controlling access to the government, and creating conflicts of interest.
Max this is one of most depressing stories I’ve ever read concerning the dissection of a sovereign nation by a bunch of economic hit men, thugs and scoundrels.
After reading this you can only come to one reasonable conclusion. Both Claver-Carone and Bedoya ought to be covered with candle wax and placed in the naughty box.

Then Murphy just adds further credence to the obvious lack of true opposition in this country. If you ever wanted to know that the US was never a Democracy, look no further than Latin America.

He cuts down Mr Mearsheimer’s “we should have brought peace to the Middle East” or Caitlin Johnstone and Hasan Piker’s well intentioned cry that the west is abandoning it's “liberal democratic values”.
He shows them and us all up as clowns in an ugly existence that started long before he was born and has been grinding human bodies at industrial scale, turning mostly working class boys into mrderers of women and babies, children, for decades and centuries.

Read the succession of slaughter as the book lays it out: the manufactured Maine explosion that gave McKinley his war with Spain; the Gulf of Tonkin incident Johnson conjured to widen Vietnam; the Domino Theory the Dulles brothers sold to a credulous Congress to license interventions that had nothing to do with any communist threat and everything to do with corporate money; Eisenhower persuaded that a “bloodless” coup beat an honest war; Allende; the death squads of Guatemala and El Salvador the United States trained and armed; the assassination of Archbishop Óscar Romero; the Contras funded, when funds ran short, by the drug trade Rubicon personally watched move on military transport. Every administration is implicated. The Congress abdicates, decade after decade, and the abdication is the point: the architecture works only because the people’s representatives agreed to stop exercising the people’s power, and the people agreed not to notice.
