Max, you say correctly that “Israel has violated almost every single ceasefire since 1948,” but then you jump to 1955. But why jump seven years, when there’s a choice example of such a violation from just days after Israel and Egypt signed a ceasefire in February 1949?
That agreement included a special provision in which Israel promised to protect the security and property of Palestinians in a small area known as the Faluja pocket, two villages that were still held by Egyptian forces (including a young Gamal Abdel Nasser) but were within Israel’s emerging borders and surrounded by Israeli troops.
On the basis of that agreement the Egyptian soldiers marched out, but within days the Israelis began attacking the Palestinians who remained, and less than two months later they had all been driven out, and Israeli General Yitzhak Rabin (a hero to liberal Zionists) gave the order to have the villages bulldozed. The violation was so brazen that even Israel’s own Foreign Minister, Moshe Sharett, wrote letters of protest to the IDF.
The Israelis later established a new city they call Kiryat Gat on the site, and in a supreme irony, the U.S. and Israel chose it as the location for the new “Civil-Military Coordination Center” that’s supposed to oversee the current ceasefire agreement!
(BTW, besides the new coordination center, Kiryat Gat is also the site of a giant Intel chip-making plant, the largest foreign investment in Israel. Keep that in mind next time you’re buying a computer. Macs no longer have Intel chips, nor do Windows PCs with AMD Ryzen processors.)
